The U.S. government has filed to withdraw certain medicines from the WTO’s Government Procurement Agreement rules in order to implement “Buy American” health care sourcing during the pandemic. Both the Trump and Biden administration’s have committed to sourcing locally and the move comes as U.S. imports of pharmaceutical categories including drugs needed to treat COVID-19 fell by 8.3% year over year in October.
