President Donald Trump has announced plans to withdraw Hong Kong’s special trade status, including high technology export rules, in response to China’s new national security arrangements. U.S. exports to Hong Kong fell by 11.7% year in 2019 versus 2016 with a slide in consumer goods and a surge in electronics components. Exports of components including semiconductors, circuit systems and computer parts climbed 88.3% higher to reach $3.76 billion in 2019.
