India’s international trade activity fell 9.9% year over year in October, led by a 15.2% slide in imports and 1.1% slip in exports. The oil industry is mostly to blame, though an 8.9% drop in imports of electronics shows the Modi administration’s “Make in India” tariff policy is working. Export growth in electronics may be the next objective, with telecoms equipment maker Xiaomi calling for more details of an export support scheme due to be launched in 2020.
