Container shipping through the ports of Seattle and Tacoma increased by 2.0% year over year in August, though much of that was down to the repositioning of empty containers. The shipping of full containers fell 1.8%, with imports down 2.6%. The latter reflected in part the impact of the U.S.-China trade war, though shipments from Canada also fell 0.9%. The forestry industry is partly to blame for the reduced Canadian traffic, with imports associated with Millar Western and Canfor down 55.3% and 42.2% respectively.
