Hong Kong Ports Already Struggling Ahead of China-America Tariff Battle

The long-term decline in container-handling through Hong Kong continued in April with a 9% drop on a year earlier. As a consequence the 12 month trailing average fell vs. a year earlier for the first time since January 2017. The underperformance vs. the Chinese average is marked, which saw a 6% rise in total handling in April. Hong Kong’s travails could worsen if a wide-ranging tariff-war breaks out between the U.S. and China.
